Each of us has our own unique story. Experiences which have shaped our character. People who have loved us – and we have loved back. Places that evoke special feelings. Songs that take us back to a simpler time.
Our memories are precious. But they must also be shared with our families and friends, so they don’t just fade away over time but can be passed to the next generation for years to come.
That is why I started voices of a lifetime. I sorely wish I could hear my dad tell his story, in his own voice, one more time.
Now I want to help others to hear their own parents tell their story – before it is too late.
Together we will create a high quality audio recording that will preserve your memories for your family and friends to hear forever.

How it works
The best stories are told when everyone is relaxed, calm and comfortable. We’ll work at your pace to make sure everything is as easy as possible
Like everything in life, the best way to make sure you get the best result is a little bit of preparation.
About a week or so before the recording we’ll have a chat to think about what you would like to talk about. I’ll suggest some broad topic areas which we will use to guide the conversation, but no two conversations are ever the same. It is really is up to you think about what it is important for you to say, and what you think your loved ones would like to hear.
Just like on Desert Island Discs, we’ll also insert some songs or music that are most meaningful to you. About 5 or 6 tracks work well. Have a think about what those tracks would be and we can work them into our conversation.
This is the lovely bit.
The most important thing to do is to decide where you would be most comfortable telling your story. A table would be ideal so that I can set up the equipment and you can speak clearly into the microphone and ensure the best quality sound for the recording.
We’ll need around 2-3 hours, so it should be somewhere quiet and calm. I’ll work at your pace and we can take breaks as often as you like. There is no pressure at all, I’ll just use the pre-agreed questions to help guide the conversation. But of course if there is something important that you suddenly remember, feel free to say it.
We’ll usually follow the different stages of your life and you can tell me as much or as little as you’d like. I’ll use gentle questions to help you remember your special memories. It’s your story, and it’s only for your loved ones to hear.
I’ll use professional software to edit the story into a a single audio file with different chapters that you will be able to listen to share with your family and friends and listen to whenever you want.
You’’ll receive the digital file via email within 3 weeks of the recording. If you’d like to make any editing amends then of course that is absolutely fine.

Telling your life story can be a little daunting. But it really is the easiest thing in the world to do. Here is a little more information for you about how it all works
What do I need to prepare?
The only think you need to do is to think about what you would like to talk about. We’ll just have a relaxed phone or video call beforehand so you can get to know me and understand how everything works. I’ll share with you some suggested topics and you can also tell me about the most important things you would like to say.
What do people usually talk about?
While every conversation is different, they usually follow the same journey. Things that people like to talk about include

their lives of their parents, great- and great -grandparents and immediate family

memories of where they were born and grew up

schooldays and school friends

clubs and hobbies they enjoyed when they were young.

teenage years – and their social lives

careers, and the ups (and downs, sometimes) of their professional lives

meeting their spouse, marriage and having children (this always brings the biggest smile)

family holidays
But of course, it is all up to you.
What music should I choose?
We all have some songs which are most special to us. Maybe it was a song your parents sang to you, or which reminds you of your spouse. While there are no guarantees we will be able to find every track, we will do our very best to make sure they are is included in the recording.
Can someone be there with me?
Of course. If having a partner, family member or friend in the room makes you feel more comfortable, they’re very welcome.
How long does it take?
There are no set times and we will go at your pace. Usually they take a couple of hours, but if it takes longer, or you need to have some breaks that is absolutely fine.
What if there are parts of my story I don’t want to talk about?
Then you won’t. You can tell me beforehand what may be too difficult to discuss and we just won’t include it. This is your story to tell, and you can include, or exclude, whatever you wish..
What if I become too emotional?
Then we can stop and start again whenever you are ready.
Will the recording be shared with anyone else?
Never. This is your story and for your own private use. I will never let
What about if I need to cancel beforehand?
There are always unforeseen circumstances, especially with elderly loved ones, and we will work with you to reschedule interviews if a problem should arise. Interviews can be cancelled and/or rescheduled by the customer with no penalty at any time.
